Before we get started, if you want to customize this design to your liking, you'll need Prusa Slicer version 2.6 or higher.
It's not officially out yet, but you can totally use it already - even alongside the official version.
Personally, I've found that 2.6 is the way to go and I use it exclusively.
I'll explain how to install it down below, it's easy!

I really like davemoneysign's Gear Spinner Keychain, but it can get expensive to buy all the external parts needed for it.
So, I already made a remix that looks and works just as well as the original, but can be fully 3D-printed.
And the best part is, with this further remix you can personalize your keychain by adding your license plate number to the back.

If you have blue filament, you can use the 3mf file body LICENSE PLATE BLUE. This design takes into account EU license plates that have a blue field on the left edge.
body LICENSE PLATE does not take this detail into account.

Interested? Then also check out my other variation, with which you can engrave your name or or a short message on the back.

How do you do that in Prusa Slicer from V2.6 onwards?

When you open the 3mf file body LICENSE PLATE BLUE or body LICENSE PLATE with V2.6 onwards, first rotate the design so that you can see the back of the keychain.

In the Slicer, on the right-hand side, you will see "Text - GG V 4711E". Right-click on it and select "Edit text".

Now you can customize the text to your liking in the Slicer on the left-hand side:
Enter your license plate number at the top. Choose a different font with a different height if you want.

Two Tips for German license plates:

  1. Enter two spaces after the city code abbreviation.
  2. For German car license plates, the EuroPlate font is used. You can download it here
Then right-click on the ttf file and choose "Install". Afterwards, the font will also be available in prusa slicer.

Please do not change the "Depth" setting, as the value of 0.95 mm is tailored to the design of the keychain.

The "Join" setting at the bottom should be activated.

You are welcome to explore all other settings, but they are probably less interesting at this point.

You can move the generated text with the mouse.

You can best see if your settings are good by slicing the design. If you want to make corrections, "Edit text" again.
Happy printing!

Other parts (gears, bearings, and screws) are included identically in my first remix. Please download them from there. You will also find complete print and assembly information.

How to find and “install” unofficial Prusa Slicer V2.6?

Open your browser and go to https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/releases
Click on the title Prusa Slicer V2.6.0-xyz.

Then scroll down to Assets section where you will find a list of download links.
Click on the link for your operating system to download the Slicer.
For example, for Windows: PrusaSlicer-2.6.0-alpha6+win64-202303311519_signed.zip.

For Windows: After downloading, simply extract the zip archive and you will find prusa-slicer.exe. Double-click to start... and you're done!

Note that unofficial versions only need to be extracted into any directory, there is no actual installation process.

I am looking forward to your Makes! :-)
