Update:

15.02.25- I have been asked for a long time to update all the models in higher quality and today I did it. I deleted all the old files.

14.12.2023- I have been asked a lot to make a 2-part model for printers with a 300mm print area. Today is finally the time to do it.

All you need is to download the file body 1 and 2. Also, due to the increased height of the divide, I recommend printing on glass for better adhesion or using a brims.

19.04.23- I added a version for printers with print heights up to 180mm. I shortened part 2 and lengthened part 1. The total length of the flute remains the same.

Double Native american flute in the key of F#

This is an easy instrument to learn because it is tuned in the minor pentatonic scale. This means that all the notes you play will match the previous ones.
In the 5-note pentatonic scale, my flute has an extra note on the 4th hole.
When playing this hole should be kept closed, some musicians even cover it with a leather tape. The additional note is needed for some creative melodies.

The double flute differs from the regular flute by having an extra channel to play. In this part of the flute, the note is a constant F#. When you play two holes at once, you get a very beautiful sound, there is a bit of magic, as if 2 musicians are playing at the same time. The flute can be played in either 1 channel or 2 channels.

Printing recommendations

The whole model is designed to be printed without supports.  The screenshots show the correct positioning on the table. The height of each model does not exceed 180mm.

  • Speed: 60mm/s
  • Print in 3 perimeters!
  • Infill: 15%
  • Supports: No
  • Material: PLA
  • The model is designed with a 0.1mm offset. On calibrated printers the fit will be perfect. With a larger offset, the sound is not good. So if your printer is not calibrated, you will have to work with sandpaper on the joints. I used some silicone grease to make the connection easier.
  • The model consists of 4 parts and a sound channel cover.
I suggest printing one model at a time.

There is also a decorative element of the head of an eagle. It consists of 2 halves, which then have to be glued. You can play without it, it is just a decoration.

After printing, the holes for the fingers should be calibrated with a drill of the appropriate diameter and chamfered.  Each time after drilling, the chamfer should be removed with a chamfer knife. If this is not done, the note will sound lower.

For the best results, you can download a guitar tuner and check each note while tuning.  This is an important step, you need to tune responsibly for good tuning and sound.
The tuning should be done from the bottom up. The fundamental note is played with all the holes closed!  You can tune the next note only after the previous one is finished.

Looks complicated? But it took me about 15 minutes. Take your time and you will have an excellent instrument.
