Modified the original measuring tape case to hold a 2.5 inch wide paper “Ribbon Map” (64mm). Fits over 12 feet (almost 4 meters) of material in length. Both parts are included in the same .stl file and are oriented for print. Add supports for the finger dimple.
To assemble, if printing a map in multiple segments (ex. I printed four 36" long segments totaling 12 feet on one piece of paper, and then cut out each segment), connect each segment of map using clear packing tape. Use about 5 inches of tape for each connection and wrap it around the back side of the map at each joint, smoothing down with a bone folder or similar. I cut my packing tape pieces in half lengthwise, as well, which helps prevent rigid bends forming in the tape/map when it is stored in the container a long time.
Fold over the very top edge of the map 3 times, a quarter inch each time, and secure with a piece of packing tape. This will be thick enough to secure the map within the slot in the center post of the lid piece. See the original model instructions that this remix is based off of (Relaxed Maker) for additional context.
On the very bottom of your map, add another piece of packing tape for durability and wrap around both sides (lots of thumbs are going to be pulling the paper from there) and add a single quarter inch bend (away from the curve) to prevent the map from slipping inside of the container when winding it up (see third image for folds).
