I saw these saddles for dimensioned lumber in the latest Veritas catalog:

I decided to make some for myself. With a set of these saddles, you can use cheap lumber as a sacrificial surface for breaking down sheet stock, for example. I haven't yet used it for actual work, so proceed at your own risk!

The post fits snugly in a 3/4" bench dog hole. A little sanding makes them easier to insert and remove. I used the following screw to secure the post to the saddle:

https://www.rockler.com/drawer-front-adjustment-screws. You can also screw them directly to a surface, such as an assembly table.

I used the 1" screw.

UPDATE 2/22/19: On request, I added a version for 1X3 lumber. I haven't printed this out, so I can't promise that it's correct. If you print it out, let me know how it works. Thanks!

UPDATE 4/18/19: Added a post for a 1" dog hole. I haven't printed this, so I don't know if it's correct. If you make this, let me know how it works. Thanks!

UPDATE 4/22/19: One maker let me know that the 1" post printed okay and worked well. Also, uploaded new version of the 3/4" post, a little shorter and with a chamfered edge.
