Description

PDF

I've tried to simplify the construction as much as possible, but this is a blast furnace so there's a lot of parts.

To make it manageable, I've broken the build up into segments/folders:

Cast house

Furnace/hearth

Loading dock

Stoves

& Miscellaneous elements like exterior piping, washing tank, smokestacks, etc

--

Parts are colour-coded in the included diagrams for ease of assembly.

I've included a segment of roofing/siding you can resize as needed, but I suspect most modellers will have a preferred method of replicating corrugated metal from foil. The aluminum foil/spaghetti trick works. I'd suggest that, rather than spending days printing flat roofing material.

For the handrails (not including those on the loading dock), print a few of the segments and cut to length as needed.

Ultimately, this isn't intended to be a comprehensive kit, and there are still components missing. This is a foundation that can be detailed and expanded upon as desired in ways that the Cornerstone kit was limited:

Add additional (modular) bays and furnaces!

Single or double track elevated loading docks!

Rows of early 1900's style smokestacks to blight the skyline!

Deny respiratory ailments and refuse class-action payouts!

August, 2024 Update:

Panel seams added to "Stove.stl"

New, detailed “Ladle.stl” part

Added optional internal crane. “Crane” (x8 needed, 4 mirrored) and “Crane_Hoist” (x1)

Added roof vent detail parts to Cast House folder.

Added external bracing detail for tanks

New “Misc_Tank” and “Cleaner Tank” files with squared supports.

All sub-assemblies are now in their respective folders.

April, 2024 Update:

Simplified “Misc Tank” and “Cleaner Tank” - bottoms now incorporated into each.

Added “Furnace_Downpipe_Extended”, so down-pipe can reach cleaner tank. New part is yellow, original parts are purple.

Revised “Cleaner_Tank_Top” to better fit downpipe.

“Cleaner_Pipe” was misnamed. Now “Vertical_Tank_Pipe”, for use with “Misc_Tank” and “180_Pipe”

Added  furnace stair components - print these slow (20mm/s)!

Parts are now rescaled by 150% and should be drop-in for 1/87 in Cura.

Simplified stove tops (now just “Stove_Top”), and furnace crown/topper (now “Furnace_Crown”).

Bustle Pipe is now in cut in quarters for assembly.

Added corrugated roof sections around furnace, and lengthened "Siding.STL" to be the full span of either the furnace or cast house. Modified lengths (to input in slicer) are as follows:

Shortened “Cleaner_Tank_Upright” to the correct length, and added “Misc_Tank_Upright”. Added diagram for tank assembly.

Lengthened “Exterior_Pipe_Downpipe", added detail to “Exterior_Pipe”, and added diagram for exterior pipe assembly.

January, 2024 update:

You'll need to upscale the components by 1.5x/150% in your slicer for 1:87. But I'll correct them at an STL level shortly. [edit - no longer required]

I've modified the brick_column_full & brick_column_short to accommodate taller rolling stock. At 150% scaling this provides 67mm clearance. [Fixed]
