My household uses a lot of Sodastream water and we have a fairly large collection of these clear polycarbonate bottles acquired over time, but as they age the “expire” and can be unsafe for pressurized use.
Parts:
I had the idea to make a version of the theaded Sodastream solid cap as a subsequent version Cap with hole punched in the top of the cap so that a spout adapter can then go beneath that cap and make an airtight seal against the bottle opening without the common water leaking around loose threads or the need to print or find a gasket.
Attached to this spout adapter is a modular rain-shower style sprinkler head like you’d see on a watering can. The watering can head is designed to be printed with its circular pattern of watering holes facing the build plate.
Inside the organically shaped and vaguely flower-like sprinkler head are a series of short baffles radiating inside from the center out towards the watering holes on a perpendicular plane. These structural elements serve as a basic water diverter towards the water holes as well as built-in support for the smoothly curved overhangs of the rain head.
The entire setup looks nice for the garden with greens and bright flower colors chosen to represent the step and petals of a flower.
The sprinkler head is a friction fit onto the spout adapter so that it can be removed and easily cleaned. A few drops of superglue would make for a more permanent connection.
I’ve also included Sodastream bottle solid cap in the set of files in case there’s a use for it.
After filling your Sodastream bottle with water, affix the bottle cap, spout adapter and sprinkler head to the threaded top.
Tilt the bottle so the face of the sprinkler head is parallel to the soil surface and gently bounce your arm and the bottle up and down in slight movements - this will help break the vacuum air gap and release a dribble of water from all of the sprinkler head holes. The movement should become quite natural within a few moments and you'll be able to start/stop the rainfall on command as you move from plant to plant
This was a fun little afternoon project, please gives likes or makes and any ideas for additional attachments.
