This is an insert for Tapestry, including all three of its expansions (Fantasies & Futures, Arts & Architecture, and Plans & Ploys). Here are some of its features:
- Gives each landmark mini its own custom-shaped storage location.
- Supports third-party base snaps on the landmark minis (bases sold by KlundKreations on Etsy are shown in the photos).
- Organized landmark mini trays by level or type, so they are easy to find and so the mini trays can just be placed on the table during play. There are separate trays for:
- Level 1 Landmarks
- Level 2 Landmarks
- Level 3 Landmarks
- Landmarks associated with Technology cards, plus the Stadium and Monolith (i.e., the landmarks that may come out during the game depending on the cards/space tiles drawn)
- Personal Landmarks (spread across two trays, which generally remain in the box after passing out the personal landmarks during setup)
- Supports premium sleeved cards (Gamegenic Prime Standard American sleeves shown in the photos).
- Because some of the card stacks are getting quite tall and prone to tipping when sleeved, the insert has separate deck holders for the tapestry cards, technology cards, and masterpiece cards (from A&A). You can place these deck holders on the table and draw straight from them.
- Separate holder for the space tiles, which can be placed directly on the table during play.
- Holds five sets of conquer dice and five of the larger A&A science dice (or the smaller original science dice).
- Separates the gray player cubes and outposts from the gray player’s income buildings and resource markers. This should make it easier to access the cubes and outposts when using gray as the Shadow Empire or Automa -- no more sifting through a large tray to find the few things you need.
- Supports vertical storage.
- Passes the upside-down shake test.
- Fits in the base box with no lid lift on my copy of Tapestry. The only caveats are: (1) you must remove the landmark board that came with the base game, which is of less utility now anyway because it does not have spaces for the A&A buildings, and (2) you must replace the older rulebooks and reference sheets with the consolidated rulebooks and reference sheet that came with Fantasies and Futures. You can still include the landmark board and other reference sheets, but you will have a bit of lid lift if you do.
To achieve the insert as pictured, print four of the main player trays and one of everything else that does not have the word “Alt” toward the beginning of the filename. The small tray that goes on top of the game board next to the inspiration tile tray is optional, so you can skip that one if you’d like.
I created a few alternate trays to accommodate smaller print beds and the BoardToBits rings that go around the landmark tokens.
- If you have a print bed that won’t fit the inspiration/landmark token tray in one piece, you can print “Tapestry - Alt - Inspiration Tiles (Split Tray) (1 of 2)” and “Tapestry - Alt - Inspiration Tiles (Split Tray) (2 of 2)” instead of printing “Tapestry - Inspiration Tiles and Landmark Tokens.” The capital city mat tray and civilization mat tray are then the trays with the largest dimensions, so you may want to check whether those will fit your printer. If not, you may need to split them in your slicer and then glue the separate pieces together.
- If you are using the BoardToBits rings around the landmark tokens, print “Tapestry - Alt - Inspiration Tiles (BoardToBits Rings) (1 of 2)” and “Tapestry - Alt - Extra Tray (BoardToBits Rings) (2 of 2)” instead of printing “Tapestry - Inspiration Tiles and Landmark Tokens” and “Tapestry - Optional Tray (Goes Next to Inspiration Tiles Tray on Top of Game Board).” While the extra tray that goes on top of the board is optional if you are not using the BoardToBits rings, it is not optional if you are using those rings. Because those rings are larger, I needed to use the extra space in that tray to hold the extra rings.
The images show how to layer everything in the box. Above the game board, on one side you stack the player mats, consolidated rule books and reference sheet from F&F, and place your draw bag on top. I replaced the original Plans & Ploys draw bag with a different one, but the original should fit, too. On the other side, you place the inspiration tile/landmark tray. Below the board, you layer the trays as shown. Be sure to orient the tray containing the castle as shown in the photo, with the castle on the right end of the tray. It has a portion that sticks up, and there is a hole in the tray above it (underneath the windmill) so the trays will sit flush.
This insert is an updated version of my original Tapestry insert, which I created after A&A came out. To fit the new components added by Fantasies & Futures and to make several other improvements, there is not an upgrade path between the two inserts. I remade this insert from the ground up, so even if you already have the earlier version, you will need to print this entire insert to replace it. For me, the improvements are worth it, including the separate deck holders for several of the card decks, the separate space tile holder, and separating the gray player cubes and outposts from the income buildings and resource markers. But if you prefer my earlier design or do not want to reprint a full insert, user rdewsbery posted a remix of my original design on Thingiverse that modifies a few trays to better accommodate the latest Tapestry expansion.
