Vanity storage trays for Frosthaven monster standees

Trays to hold your Frosthaven enemies

Together, these two trays hold all the standees for the normal and elite monsters that come with Frosthaven (https://cephalofair.com/pages/frosthaven).  Each group of monsters has its own niche which is sized to fit that monster's outline.  Each niche has a finger hole so you can easily extract the monsters.  And each niche is sized to hold exactly the number of standees available: four, six, or ten depending on the monster.  If you lose track of a monster or try to put one in the wrong niche, it will be obvious immediately.  Only normal and elite standees have dedicated niches; boss standees are not supported.

Grouping

When you look at the trays, you can see all the monsters, so you can easily
find the ones you are looking for.  The monsters are grouped thematically: Demons, Algox, Water Hazards, Deadly Mechanisms, and so on.  The thematic groups are taken from the grouping of the monster stat cards as they come out of the Frosthaven box; monsters that are often found together should be located near one another.  (In the interest of getting everything to fit, I've placed the Shrike Fiend out of order; it's in the Mountains group.)  The thematic groups and their members are listed below, and there is a visual key in file tray-cover.pdf.

Transparent covers

Each tray supports a transparent cover that retains the standees while displaying them.  The cover fits into a retaining lip on three sides, forming a sliding dovetail. The lip is printed 3mm high with 2mm of overhand, so at about 56 degrees. I made my covers from 3mm acrylic ("Plexiglas"), and I cut angles on edges with a block plane.  If you don't have access to a block plane, edges could probably be sanded at an angle, but it would be a tedious job.  If you have access to a laser cutter, vector outlines for the covers can be found in file lids.pdf. These outlines are meant to be trimmed with a block plane, so they are oversize.

Printing and modeling

The trays themselves fit neatly into the Frosthaven box.  They fill the long dimension but not the short one; in order to make the trays printable on a Prusa i3 MK3, I've limited the trays to be 250mm wide.  For the i3 MK3 they need to be sliced with no skirt layers and no brim.  The trays shown in the photographs were printed with 0.15mm layer hight and with ironing for the top layer.

The models were created with Shapr3D.  This tool made it easy to create the custom niches, but alas, the models are hard to edit.  If I were doing it again I would trim about 1.5mm off the bottom of each tray, and I would eliminate the fillets in the finger holes for tray 2.

The trays have no room for initiative tokens.  I did create a model of one tray with slots for initiative tokens, but I didn't like the looks of it, and it was never printed.  If it interests you, DM me.
