My first plan was to make a gear shape that curves inwards towards the middle with smooth, filleted teeth with circular grooves that would feel snug around the fingertips. The design on top would be my initials with a line leading from one letter into the other.
After carrying out this plan in Solidworks, I realized that the design left too much empty space. In order to fill the space naturally left by the letters themselves, I used triangles to complement the nice, straight lines of the capital letters.

Still feeling that something was missing, I decided to border the makercoin by putting a pattern on the gear teeth. Following the triangle theme of the main design, I took inspiration from the Penrose triangle and circular patterned a similar shape around the border of the makercoin.

Finally, I decided to fill the last bit of empty space with a pattern of shapes along a curve. After thinking for a while, I settled on using arrows, as they would be satisfying for the eyes to trace, and give a bit of variety from triangles without deviating from the geometric theme.
