PROBLEM 1:
Many people know Bernardeau candlelight holders, those beautiful votives. I also own one of them, but my wife was tired of changing candles and remembering to light them. So I decided to make it easy for her, of course, with a little bit of tinkering for fun.
SOLUTION 1:
With the help of an LED and a few electronic parts, I made it more XXI century. Now it lights up when it is dark in the room automatically.
PROBLEM 2:
The second problem is that the LED is placed in the middle of the base, giving too much light to the ceiling. When I limited the power going to LED, the light was too weak to provide a good effect on the walls.
SOLUTION 2:
I made a cover for the top part of the lamp. I printed in white PLA with 100% infill, which imitates the porcelain quite well.
Print it with some fancy infill pattern for an interesting light effect if you wish. I kept support all over the model to ensure the thin top cover would hold its shape. I also made a variable height to keep the finest resolution only on the top, which speeds up the printing time and keeps a nice flat surface on the top. I didn't post-process the print in any way.
If you don't want to play with the settings, use provided gcode file and print it in PLA.
I also attached the step file, as those candle holders are hand-made and, therefore, not always perfectly shaped, so you may want to fiddle a little bit with the model to get a perfect and snuggle fit.
Happy printing!
