Case Fan DIY Air Purifier / Filter

Case Fan Air Purifier using computer case fans instead of box fans. These fans are much easier to source than box fans in New Zealand.

Materials purchased (for one box):

• Dressed 30x30x1200 pine $8.90 [link]
• 4.75x1200x600 MDF $9.30 [link] or 4.8x1200x600 hardboard $18.40 [link] cut into 600x170mm strips
• 6x DeepCool RF120W White LED Fan 6 x $10 ($60) [link]
  • These fans are cheap, have good airflow (48.9 CFM), and have daisy-chain molex power connectors
• OR 4x ThermalRight TL-C12CW Case Fans 4 x $13 ($52) [link]
  • Powerful airflow (66 CFM), with daisy-chain connectors [not molex]
• GRAINGER Pleated Air Filter, 20x20x1, MERV 13 11C876 PK 12 $490 (1/6th used, i.e. $82) [link]
• AIR HANDLER Air Filter Roll, 24 x25 ft.x1/4 in. $267 (1/6 used, i.e. $45) [link]
  [or 6mm Para Rubber Filter Foam cut to 50x50cm, 2 x $30; link]
• 12V/2A AC adapter $27
• Custom-made 2.1mm plug [$2] to Molex [$4.20] adapter using 7.5A hookup wire [$1]

Marginal consumable cost for 1 box: about $200.

• OR 10mm spade drill bit $12.50 [link]
  • More time consuming drilling 55 individual holes vs one large hole, but doesn't need an additional grille
