This is a remix of the incredible bee model by SparkyFace5. I needed to print a much smaller bee than the original, so the .STL file was scaled down. I then thickened the legs, wings, antennae, and eyes so that they would be strong enough and distinct for FDM printing with a 0.2 mm nozzle. I also wanted to print the wings separately using a different filament, so the wings were removed, tabs were added at the ends of the wings, and corresponding slots were put into the body of the bee.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Creality

Printer:

Ender 5

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.2 mm

Infill:

25%

Filament: eSun; Filamentum PLA+; PLA Yellow; Crystal Clear

Notes:

The body was printed legs down with support under the body and antennae. A brim was used as well in order to keep the legs stable until they eventually were joined to the body.

The wings were printed standing vertically with the narrow base of the insertion peg flat down on the bed (like the orientation shown in the blue images). No support was necessary aside from using a brim around the insertion peg.

After trimming away brim with a knife, the wings were superglued into the corresponding slots on the body of the bee. Wife did the painting before the wings were attached.

I did not try printing the full bee model, but it has been included in case someone would like to.

How I Designed This

All manipulations of SparkyFace5's original .STL file were done in MeshMixer.
