I wanted a tool free fan holder for to cool the heatsink on the generic mosfet heated bed boards. Here is what I came up with after I couldn't find one that I liked.
I decided to design my own with the following requirements:
- The fan is retained directly over the mosfet.
- The main screw terminals are accessable.
- You can still reach the rear PCB mounting holes if you wish from the sides.
- No tools or hardware required to install on the board.
- No tools or hardware to install the fan.
I designed this fan holder to slip onto the board. (If the standoffs clear the leg clips.) Or flex onto the board with the side legs and then slide forward to clip in the back. (If the standoffs do not clear the leg clips.)
The 40mm fan is held in place with a tight fit and a tapered tab on the lip.
Notes about the model.
- The left leg is cut away enough to allow them to clear the input plug. As long as you install them as shown in the pictures.
- Support is only needed on the legs if you print it as the model is oriented you can block the support in the fan opening. The circular fan holes are large enough that the arch prints unsupported. (I printed it in PETG, didn't look stellar due to stringing but it was able to print no issues)
- Make sure the fan is pointing the direction you want (I did down so it would blow air over the heat sink.) and the wire is facing out the fan installation side. You can get the fan back out but it requires a lot of force and I am not sure how well the fan clipping lip will hold up. (Gif shows installing fan into the housing)
- I printed in PETG for the slight flexing ability of it as a material. As well as heat resistance. I am not sure if ABS or PLA will have enough flex to allow the legs to clip on. You may only have the option so slide it onto the board.
