The material used and recommended here is matte black PLA. To further reduce any reflections, I sprayed the turntable down with matte black spray paint.
I took the photos using my cell phone on a tripod every 3 seconds at 4 levels of angle (0, 15, 30, 45) which at my speed was about 16-18 photos per angle. The subject was illuminated overhead by a simple ring light.

The legs and plumbing were printed at a 45 degree angle so the layer lines were not a point of weakness.
5 neodymium magnets were added to fixture the subjects to the center of the table and eliminate possibility of movement.
The motor speed can be adjusted my potentiometer or code adjustment. See slow_cont.ino.
If you want perfectly dimesionally accurate models, Id suggest using a scale with coded targets. You can find some here or here.
If you need it, I wrote a python script that will mask the photos and transfer the metadata to the masked images. See mesh_prep.py.
The original hand cranked design has been stolen and molested by many users. I take no credit for it's original design.
