The Original Fidget Fifty (Fidget Coin)

These are BY FAR my favorite fidgets! Slide 'em, flip ‘em, spin ‘em, or spring ‘em; your hands will stay busy all day! Be warned, though, this print is NOT for the faint of heart, you need an expertly calibrated print as there are only 0.1mm clearances. This is absolutely necessary to prevent secondary clicking as the magnets move inside the internal structures, but it’s ABSOLUTELY worth it if you can pull it off! This print uses embedded 10x4x2mm bar magnets or 5x2mm circular magnets. I recommend you print 2 of these to get the best effect, but more is certainly possible if you find 2 aren’t stimulating enough.

Here are a few tips to get you started:

1. Print low and slow. That is to say low temp and slow speeds. I also recommend going no lower than 0.2mm layer heights to make sure the bridges over the magnets go well.
2. Print with a hardened steel nozzle or harder because your nozzle WILL scrape across the magnets because of the tight tolerances.
3. Print a calibration cube and compensate with Horizontal Expansion (Cura) or XY Size Compensation (Prusa Slicer) to dial in the exact calibration.
4. Buy QUALITY magnets with excellent dimensional accuracy. I recommend this product on Amazon as they were extremely accurate (±0.05mm)
5. Either enable ironing or sand the top layer (or both) to get super a super slick surface to enable “spring” mode
6. If you can't make up your mind on which version to print I recommend going with the “Bar Magnet” version as the magnets you'll get are much stronger making the fidget much more satisfying, but if you already have the 5x2mm magnets the “Circle Magnet” version will do fine as well.

Some of my favorite tricks, and how to do them are as follows (You can also see these in this video):

1. Slide Flick (My favorite): Stack the coins on top of each other (North-South) and push forward on one side of the top coin, then when the coin snaps into its next position you can flick it back into place with your pointer finger
2. Spring Mode: Flip one coin over so that the magnets are facing North-North or South-South. Then rotate the top coin 1/6th of a turn so that the magnets snap into place between the magnets on the coin below. Congrats you now have a magnetic spring! This works best if you have one side that is extremely smooth (ie sanded top or glass first layer)
3. Orbit: Simply align the coins however you like (this works both North-North, and North-South) and then pinch the magnets between your thumb and another finger, and “orbit” your thumb around, you'll feel the magnetic forces guide you. This is especially interesting if you have a smooth top, and a textured bottom.
4. Clicker: Align the coins so that the top one is offset from the bottom, place a finger along the rim of the bottom coin, and push down on the top coin over the overhanging side and you've got a nice clicker. I recommend not doing this around people you care about as it can get pretty loud. It works best North-South orientation but works both ways.
5. Flip: This one is a little trickier to master, but you can push the top coin off of the bottom, and if you angle your thumb just right you can get it to flip back around snapping back on the bottom coin.
6. Palm Flick: You can separate the coins so that they are connected only by one magnet on either coin. By pushing back on one of the coins you can cause it to jump over the other and back into your palm. If you do it JUST right you can make it slide down your palm and back onto the other coin but I haven't quite mastered that technique yet.
