The is a tough case designed to protect a Mitutoyo Indicator based on the “Rugged Box v2” by Whity, which was based on the "Tool box parametric" by Yanev.
The whole case is just 134mm by 88mm by 57mm, enough for one lug back indicator.
It fits both Digital or Analogue Dial indicator with a lug back. I have tested it with Digimatic Indicators (543 series) and it also fits the Dial indicators (2109) with an extra layer of foam. It will probably fit many others, I have included the fully parametric Fusion 360 file, so you can modify it to fit.
If your indicator doesn't have a lug back, it will still fit in this case, although I would recommend rebuilding the model first, as you can remove almost half the height of the box.
A summary of the main changes from Whity and Yaney's original brilliant designs:
Assembly Instructions
I printed in PETG with 50% infill. Support on, helps to keep the holes round.
I've replaced all the screws with Bamboo Skewers - Mine are about 2.9mm diameter, this worked fine as an interference fit, some are 3mm some are 3.2mm so you might or get the skewers first and modify the hole size. Push the skewer into the hinge and latch holes and cut flush with side cutters.
Add a dot of super glue to secure and colour the end of the skewers with a sharpie.
Cut a disk of 1mm thick craft foam to protect the lens of your indicator. and another disk with a slot to go on the back to stop it rattling
Optional: Push some 1.75mm diameter silicone into the slot to make the o-ring cut to length with a scalpel.
If you've made one, and it works, or you have any improvements please suggest them in the comments. It works for me, as is, and I am interested in refining this further.
