What is this for? You've got a Prusa enclosure and you don't want to use the built in spool holder + PTFE tube configuration. The primary solution I found was to stick the spool on top and use a bearing style filament roller. I wanted it to be secure and not move around but with the ability to remove it easily if I need to do some work or perhaps you have the hinged lid. I found “The Ultimate Spool holder” and thought it was almost perfect and I could quickly fix it with a little tweak.

Updating your existing roller ? Simply print the two rail magnets and swap them out.

Bill of Materials:

  • Hardware:
    • 8x3mm circular magnets.
      • You can use between 2 and 6 magnets depending on how much strength you want.
      • This is the same size used for extruder visualizers
    • 4 m3x10 screws and m3 hex nuts
      • This is the same from the original model
  • Printed:
    • 2 of this part, rail-magnet
    • 2 of the rollers (from the original model)
    • 2 of the bases (from the original model)

Assembly:

  • Press fit hex nuts
  • Insert the magnets with a dot of adhesive. I used superglue.
    • They have a tight friction fit but not enough to overcome the magnetic force and you will end up with them not sticking in the rails and instead to your enclosure.
  • Follow the instructions from the original model to finish.

For those who care, in my case I actually can't use the built in setup because of some hot end mods that make it overhang a bit to the right. I suspect almost any fan mod would have this issue. The only viable location to place the left which is taken up by the LED add on. The LED add on doesn't have a long enough cord to mount it anywhere else either so you can't swap it to another corner.
