This is an adjustable (up and down) mount for BL-touch, and BL-touch type sensors. It is designed for the Ender3 (and therefore also the CR-10 and other Creality printers that use the same hot end design).
This thing is a mash up of the rails used in Chito's "CR-10 Heavy Duty customisable modular e3D V6 mount Volcano 5015 ABL", and the mount used in Lucid's "CR-10 BLtouch mount", and is designed to be adjustable.
These are the recommended files to use/print:
Base Mount: adj-bltouch-mount-3D-mount-EC-mod_v2.stl
Why use this version? Because it has pockets for the fan cover, print with supports.
Wing: adj-bltouch-mount-4A-wing.stl
-or adj-bltouch-mount-5C-Short-Wing-M25.stl
Why use one of these? Because these print faster and have more adjustment range. The difference between these is that the "5C-Short-Wing-M25" version allows the M2.5 nuts (which mount the probe) to remain captive in a pocket. The "4A-wing" does not have pockets for the nuts used to mount the probe. No Supports needed.
Hardware:
The mount itself will need a 10mm M3 screw and a M3 nut. Note that this is in addition to the mounting hardware for mounting the touch probe to the mount.
Optional is some nail polish to help hold the M3 adjusting screw once it is set where you want it -thanks ixian for the idea.
All files can be printed at 0.2mm layer height.
Offsets (Thanks to Demonhawk): define X_PROBE_OFFSET_FROM_EXTRUDER -44 define Y_PROBE_OFFSET_FROM_EXTRUDER -14
Thanks for looking, if you like this thing, please like it or download it (which helps to get me closer to my first free spool of Prusament). Or you can check out my site, to see what other projects are in the works.
STEP files is included for easy remixing.
Since this was originally posted, there have been a few updates (newest first):
9-4-2023: Updated the M3 Nut pocket on the following models thanks to feedback from georgewoodall82. It is now tighter by a bit (went from 5.9mm flat to flat to 5.625 flat to flat).
adj-bltouch-mount-3D-EC-mod_v2.stl
adj-bltouch-mount-3D-EC-mod_v2.stp
7-11-2020 There is a 6-32 version here (for using with a 6-32 screw and nut to secure the wing position): https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3509991
3-11-2020: Thanks to benebrady's cool remix which adds some recessed M2.5 nuts to the fixed mount (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4216492 - EDIT 7/11/2020 link is not working), I was inspired to add the same update to the adjustable mounts. The original wings will be left, but I added new versions which have recesses that can take a M2.5 or an M2 nut (M2 is not standard, but what I have a bunch of). I have not tested the M2.5 versions since I don't have any M2.5 hardware on hand, but the design is close to the spec for M2.5 nuts with a little extra margin (5.08mm flat to flat). The wings are imprinted with the size to avoid printing the wrong size. The STEP files are also uploaded for easy remixing.
4-25-2019: Thanks to Eric_Csuf's improved remix of the 4-40 version https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3586322 (and his permission), the mount posted here has been updated with pockets which help the base of the mount sit flush to the hot end carriage that it mounts to.The updated mount is named:
"adj-bltouch-mount-3D-mount-EC-mod.stl"
**If you use the new version of the mount part (above), please print it with supports, since it has pockets on the side that faces the carriage.**
I will leave the original version of the mount (adj-bltouch-mount-3D-mount-RTP.stl), without the pockets, here as well.
10-27-2018: Minor update to the wing design. I will leave the original version (3D) available, since it appears to be working, but have also uploaded a new "4A" wing design. The differences between the "3D" and "4A" design are:
If you have different hardware on hand (other than M3), check the remixes out. If you don't have any M3 nut handy, torsoreaper posted a remix that does not need it (just requires the M3 screw). Chooser1543 posed a remix (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4634491) which chopped the arm of the mount, whichmay work with an Ender3 V2. If you try that remix on a V2, please post feedback as a comment or "make" in his remix.
This was designed with ViaCAD V9
Some suggestions if you have a problem with supports sticking to the model
If you run into a problem where supports are stuck to the model and want to use the version of the mount with the pockets for the fan cover, you may need to reduce the temp a bit. You can also try to use the supports without the support interface. Here are some suggested settings which may help if you are using Cura (Some of these may be hidden but you can find them using the gear next to each heading in the print settings):
Cooling > initial fan speed (100%) - if using PLA
Support > support density (lower this, 12% should be OK)
Support > Enable Support Roof (off)
Support > Fan Speed Override (on)
Experimental > Enable Bridge Settings (on)
If that still does not work and you cannot adjust the temp lower for other reasons then you can try adding an additional layer gap between the supports and the model but that will result in a poor looking interface (but should not matter functionally).
Support > Support Z distance (increase by a layer height)
If you do this, check the slicer preview and look at the layers to be sure it is only inserting 2 gap layers between the supports and print and not 3. If it does have 3, then drop the value by 1/2 layer height and re-check.
Sliced with 12% support density (lines) and no support roof.
