I purchased 6 new printers (all MK3S+). After a few weeks, most of the filament sensors caused the printer to constantly ask for a filament change as if the printer had run out of filament. I would change the filament, it would attempt to go back to printing but before it even started to extrude, it would request another filament change.

After some time and some investigation, I noticed that there was a LOT of play in the hole for the adapter_printer model. The hole is modeled at 2.4mm. Because of this, if the filament wiggled even a little, it would trip the sensor. So I reduced to the hole to 2.2mm and moved it .2mm towards the ball in the sensor. Problem solved! My filament sensors now work no matter how much wiggle is in the filament.

Upgrade v1.1: I discovered that the tolerances were a little too tight for printing with PETg. I made the hole the same size as the original but kept the placement to keep the filament pushed toward the sensor.

Update: (7-14-2023) Since I have upgraded all of my printers (23), I have not had a single issue with the filament sensors triggering falsely.  The sensors all work great and I fully trust them now to tell me when the filament ACTUALLY runs out.
