Here is a case for a 32x8 RGB WS2812B-like leds strip, and a ESP8266/ESP32 controller on the back like a D1 mini, ESP-01… to control it with WLed or PixelIt firmware as an example.

Fusion 360 and STEP files are included to allow remix culture :-).

My use case

I use this screen to expose the house AC power consumption in real time as well as my solar panels production and get the status of the 3D printer when running. Also, if the postman drop a letter, this trigger an alert on the screen to notify me.

To do it, I use PixelIt firmware which sounds better for texts. I've created the screens using Home Assistant Node-Red extension, so I get access to all entities/sensors to create extra screens.

Print settings

Print 2 Fronts, 2 Back, 1 Controller box, and 1 Support Light Sensor. I use a MK3S but should be possible on a Prusa Mini as well.

  • Standard .3 to .2mm layers
  • PLA filament
  • No brim
  • No support required (except build plate supports for the Controller box & Support LDR Sensor)
  • Last but not least, a well adjusted bed levelling

If you have a MMU2S unit you can print the front black & white like on the pictures. If no MMU, then add a tool change at the 3rd layer.

About the colors, I've tried multiple thickness of the white screen, different colors for the separator, but pur white 0.4mm (2 layers) with black separator is the best compromised to well isolate pixels. If you add too much thickness to the white, or print the separator in white, you'll get blurry pixels. The dark side of this combinaison is the black separator being slightly visible through the white thin screen, but not a big deal when you are not too close to it.
