This is the hanging version of the spool holder, I have now also uploaded a standing version, some parts are the same as the other spool holder so you can reuse them if you change your setup.

Introduction:

After some experience with my printers, it was time to create the ideal spool holder for me.
I print a lot with CPE, which is very grippy, which causes the spool to unwind more and more due to a lot of moving of the extruder.
This is prevented by a PTFE tube from the extruder to the spool holder. But it has another advantage.
It improves the print quality because the path from the extruder to the spool always remains the same length, no matter where the extruder travels. This means that the filament spool is never pulled jerkily, which would pull the extruder up slightly, which in turn can show up in the print result. The filament spool is moved only by the extruder motor.
Furthermore, I want to be able to quickly switch between two filaments, for this reason the PTFE tube is connected to the spool holder by a magnetic coupling from Line Arc Line. This makes it possible to quickly switch between several spool holders.
Of course you can use the spool holder without the bracket for the reverse bowden.

There is also a wider version of the spool holder. This can hold spools which are the same diameter but up to 160mm wide. For example Prusament 2kg spools.
→ I've now also added an axle for spools with 300mm diameter (max. 156mm wide).

I also changed the part “Mount-Filamentguide”. This can now be flipped up so that changing the spool is a little easier.

Instruction:

You need the following parts:

  • 2x M3x8mm screws (connecting “Mount-Filament-Guide” to the side parts)
  • 10x M3x8-12mm screws
  • min. 2x PTFE Bowden Coupler
  • min. 6x 5x5mm cylinder magnets
  • PTFE Tube
  • 6 screws to mount the spool holder, this one has 5mm countersunk holes

You will also need the correct adapter to connect the PTFE tube to your printer depending on the printer model. Link to the file for the Prusa MK3, Link to the file for the Mk3 Bear.

The magnets are inserted with the help of a print pause into the models, you can print these parts at the same time, since the break takes place with all parts on the same height (make sure the polarity of the magnets is correct!!).

I have adapted the magnetic coupling of Line Arc Line a little, there are two different versions depending on the type of PTFE coupling.
If the PTFE coupling has a small opening, use PTFE-Connector-A. If the coupling has a large opening, you can use PTFE-Connector-B.
