Since this is the first model in the Cat Toys contest, I wanted to combine a few good safe practices for other users to follow, such as no bridging, no small parts, nothing that could be bitten or ripped off, and no thin parts that could break.
The stuff that humans will like:
No bridging, which can be weak and break off.
Sphere is flattened at top and bottom, for ease of printing as well as to remove those weak top few layers that can come off easily if layer adhesion isn't the best.
Even if the the outside is broken, the sphere on the inside is large enough where it should not get lost or swallowed.
Corners of the cylinder chamfered off, to disallow grabbing it by just one strip of filament going around the edge.
The stuff that cats will like:
The ball on the inside won't come out, so it can be endless fun.
The ball can be seen from many different angles.
The sphere can roll and since the ball isn't a perfect sphere it will bounce around inside the sphere.
Large enough to not get lost easily, but small enough where your human will be able to print it quickly.
Update: I printed one and my cats absolutely love it. The plastic on plastic noise from the ball spinning is so fun for them and it skids across the ground like a little hockey puck and they chase it around. 10/10
