I designed Chopsticks Playing Chopsticks when the contest began and my wife enjoyed the joke. Then she said I should make a drum so you can actually play with the chopsticks.
It got me thinking and over the week I have played with various different skin tensions and thicknesses to achieve a pretty good sounding drum. I made it two sided so you can use different thicknesses for different sounds.
I am not proficient enough yet to make it look all fancy, but it is pretty functional.
I have included three skins all at .6mm but with different tensions. Loose skins sound more like a snare. You can try adjusting the thicknesses for your own preferences.
I used Eryone black PLA for the body and K5 Magic Granite PLA to give the skins a more realistic texture.
Like the piano keys, I designed this print to be small and quick to save time and materials.
*When I did a test print on the body with the granite PLA I had no problems with overhangs, but the black PLA isn't as good and required me to set “make overhangs printable” at 45 degrees.
I threw in a picture of my prototyping for fun.
