I didn't like the print orientation and thin wall feature of D3vil.design's original design, so I completely revamped the model to include a break-away support, repositioning of alignment pins, hole sizes, etc.
I built it to test it out and it works great.
Print settings and other notes:
- Material: ABS or ASA
- 0.2mm layer height using 0.4mm nozzle
- 3 wall perimeters & 100% infill
- Print orientation such that the break-away supports touch the bed - the two alignment pins should face up
- No brim or additional support required
Assembly:
- Break-away the 2 supports
- Cut brass brush to ~8.5mm width (so you're left with 2x3 arrangement of bristles)
- The plastic base height should be <6.5mm tall - shave it down as necessary to fit
- Trim bristles so that the overall height of the brush+holder is 19.5mm - 19.8mm - measure from the flat face of the holder (and not the two alignment pins) to the tip of the bristles
- Install nozzle brush holder first using the screw that holds the original nozzle wiper
- Slide the brush into the slot
Update:
- Added a version that does not have the side screw for those that can trim the brush to fit tightly - I recommend printing both versions and if your brush can fit tightly then use the version without the side screw.
- 04/18/2023 - No longer recommending the M3 heat inserted version - revised instructions for overall height.
- 04/18/2023 - Released v2 model with taller side walls to help liberate poop after first layer inspection. I tried adding the stock PTFE wiper adjacent to the brush as other's have recommended, but there is very little room between the brush and nozzle when the head moves to do the poop after first layer inspection. Instead, I increased the height of the holder so that there's less chance of the filament holding onto the brush. Highly recommend upgrading to this version if you've been having issues with filament sticking to the bristles.
