I recreated the original in my own CAD drawing for two main reasons :

First, the original holder is the wrong size for my QCTP.

Second, if you look at the original, you will see that it is designed for a tilted back board. Since I needed these for a vertical back board, I also made an angled bracket so they could be mounted to the backboard at an angle.

The bracket is designed to mount to the holder with four #8-32 x 1/2" flat head screws (M4 x 0.7 would probably work also). The bracket needs to be threaded with a standard tap. The bracket mounts to the back board with two #8 flat head screws.

The photos show how I mounted the holders on the wall behind my lathe. I used an angled mounting board so I did not need the brackets.

The holder have four screw holes, but I found that two screws were enough to hold just fine.

My OnShape 33D CAD files for this are here :

Print instructions

Print in PLA using the 3mf file provided; otherwise:

For the holder :

  • 0.2mm layer height
  • perimeters = 2
  • infill 5% recilinear

For the bracket :

  • 0.2mm layer height
  • perimeters = 3
  • infill 10% rectilinear

Print the bracket with the shortest side oriented downward - in this way no supports are needed.

These settings could likely be tweaked further, although I do recommend using at least 3 perimeters on the bracket where the tapped holes are located.
