My wife needed something in her genetics lab to keep the vials of fruit flies from rolling around on the lab table while the students examined them since they can't be stood upright while the flies are napping or they could get stuck in their food and perish. Thus the Drosophila tray was created. Now the students can safely examine the fruit flies without risk to the flies, and without the vials rolling all over the table.
