3DTje RX (aka RemiX), my final take on the 3DTje design!
I love this little printer design from thingiverse (3DTje https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1023641), it even fits on the buildplate of a Prusa Mini!

You can find a video of it in action here:

The machine prints very nice, even better now with the new hotend and part cooling setup "inspired" by the Prusa MK2S.

Includes the fully configured firmware for the MKS Gen L 1.0 board (based on Marlin 1.1.9) aswell as the printer profile for prusa slicer - just load the included 3D Benchy 3mf file to get the profiles for the machine, 0.2mm layer and PLA.

My goals were to...
o preserve the original look and feel of the design
o fix all parts with errors, which lead to problems during slicing
o strengthen the design where possible
o adjust for convenience features such as removable build plate, 2 part print bed, easy belt mount on X and Y Axis aswell as the use of leadscrews
o keep the same dimensions, all parts are interchangeable with the original design
o this remix supplements the original 3DTje, you can mix and match as you like

I tried to capture as many details as possible of my build with the provided pictures. There is also an assembly reference in scad format, you need the free OpenSCAD program to open the file. Make sure all the other STL files are in the same directory, the scad just loads, aligns and colors them for a better understanding of the printer construction.

You can also find all of the modified (and some of the original 3DTje stl files) in the files section along with a 7zip archive of my OpenSCAD stuff if you want to modify those yourself.

The 6mm rod lengths are as follows:
o X: both 167mm
o Y: 198mm and 190mm
o Z: both 154mm

Updates
2024-04 (rev 2) adjusted a few files for easier printing and better tolerances, updated the reference file and screenshots, also added all original 3DTje files needed to build this printer to the files section (had to be copied from the original thing before)

2023-02 (rev 1) reuploaded the files with minor changes and added an assembly reference as scad file (use the freeware OpenSCAD to open it), also uploaded some screenshots for reference

Design changes:
o added slopes for more strenght to the base of the y axis, also added stops to the front to prevent the rods from sliding out
o designed a printable idler wheel to replace the 2 part construct of the original design
o designed a new printbed for igus bushings and a flex plate
o added two cuts in the frame to make room for the 114 mm flex plate
o closed the holes in the z axis top cover to hold the rods in place and prevent them from sliding out on top, also increased the hole diameter for the leadscrew
o modified the left and right x axis to work with a brass nut for the leadscrew
o strenghtened the area around the screw for the z endstop on the left x axis
o designed a new mount plate for the MKS Gen L 1.0 board and added a small 30mm fan mount to cool the steppers
o added a cut in the backplate to make room for the slightly too large MKS board
o closed the fan and power switch mount holes in the backplate too
o realigned the holes for the Display / RepRap Smartcontroller, my chinese version did totally not fit, also added a rectangle just for design
o designed an alternative mount for an MKS Mini Display
o designed a new hotend mount with clamp and fanshroud for a 5015 blower fan

Hardware changes:
o using two T5 x 1 x 1 leadscrews + brass nut (Thread diameter 5mm, 1mm pitch, Lead - 1mm per turn)
o switched to the MKS Gen L 1.0 board to make some space on the inside (about half the height of a RAMPS + MEGA2560 stack)
o changed the LM6UU ball bearings to IGUS RJMP-01-06 drylin bushings
o redesigned a new printbed in 2 parts and added a BuildTak FlexPlate System (114 x 114 mm)
o using a metal extruder, print the provided stil file to mount it (just the normal mount with the top cut off)

Print Settings

  • Printer brand: Prusa
  • Printer: I3 MK3S
  • Rafts: No
  • Supports: Yes
  • Resolution: 0.2mm
  • Infill: depends, up to 50% for structural parts!
  • Filament brand: Das Filament
  • Filament color: matt schwarz and neon orange
  • Filament material: PLA
  • Notes: Don't hold back on shells and infill where it matters! The Frame should be printed close to solid, same for the backplate and the y axis! These parts contribute alot to the regidity of the whole printer!
