3D Printy Puzzles are gifts that everyone loves but a great gift needs to come in a great box!

This is a new case for a Moai Statue I designed based on 3D Printy Print in place puzzle.

https://www.printables.com/model/345982-print-in-place-twisty-puzzle-box

I design the statue so it is totally hollow so there is a lot of space to put a gift inside.

There are two versions of this Moai case - a simple and a difficult version depending on the level of complexity you want to share with your friends. Both versions use the same inside mechanism.  more details at

This box fits perfectly with this puzzle. I design an insert to make sure the puzzle fits nicely inside this box.

For ultimate personalization you can customize the optional guard under the top of the box.

For this version I used the same Moai statue as the topper for the box which is adding a nice “mise en abyme” perspective but you can use any of my other toppers for these gift boxes (see below).

I redesign from the same 3D Printy Print in place puzzle a new concept of a “puzzle topper” which use the same mechanism to open the box so it is twice the fun - a puzzle to open the box then the muzzle inside the box to finally get to your gift.

I would suggest using the simple version of the topper as a teaser and the difficult version for the statue. If you use this puzzle topper, you will have to print two of the internal puzzle (oen dor the topper and one for the puzzle).

I put a simple sketch for both simple and difficult puzzle solutions.

PRINTING

  • All 3MF files should have the right configuration
  • no support needed
  • PLA is working fine for all pieces
  • for the insert, it is enough (and recommended) to use a 5% infill with a lightning fill
  • everything else with an infill of 15 or 20% is good.
  • I would suggest using one color for the box, another for the ribbons and topper and third one for the insert and the mechanism.
  • if you want to customize the optional guard, you could add a logo and/or text in Sketchup, Fusion, etc.
  • I design a special key for the puzzle topper with again the shape of the Moai statue. You could use a long or a shorter bottom depending on how much you want at the top of the key to stand up above the puzzle.
