Background to the design

Josef Prusa certainly wanted to tell us something with the Printables logo. Because it just begs to be arranged in a heart. It clearly has to be love, - love for 3D printing that we all share with him ♡ ♡

I came up with the design as part of the 2023 Valentine's Day Flash Contest. And since we were all supposed to be winners that day, the step to a medal wasn't as big. However, since that wasn't enough for me to submit, I also thought of the many beautiful designs for earrings on printables and tried out creating one: The printables heart is now also available as an earring variant :D

Information about printing

The designs are available as .stl files so that you can make the settings that suit you and your printer best. Alternatively, there are a few ready-made .gcodes uploaded with which you can start printing directly. But check the configurations in advance!

In order to create the .gcodes, I used PrusaSlicer version 2.5.

 » Medal «

The medal has an eyelet so that it can be worn around the neck with a ribbon or chain if you like to. You can also print them as a multicolored variant (see pictures). In principle, no extra accessories are required for this, just a function in the slicer.

 » Earring «

Printing the earring can be a bit frustrating. Consider using a brim and a suitable support to bridge the filling.

It is also recommended to use a nozzle with a small diameter, like the 0.25mm nozzle from E3D from the Prusa shop. As a result, filigree structures are printed with more detail and is particularly recommended for models of earrings or business cards with small letters.

Prusa Research has clearly documented how to change the nozzle on an Original Prusa i3 printer in this guide. There is also a corresponding description for the Original Prusa Mini. Give it a try - it's really quite simple. :D

Afterword

If you like my design, feel free to show me that too :D

This can be done in different ways. It would be best if you upload your prints of the model as a make and give feedback by commenting.

Surely there is someone who can print medals and earrings in more suitable colours for Valentine's Day than I could use for my thumbnails ;)

Thanks for reading and possibly your prints ♡ ♡
