Instructions

Either use one of the supplied STLs, or to generate your own jig:

  1. Open jig.scad in OpenSCAD
  2. Set the parameters for the size of the jig. The main parameters are:
    1. num_cells: the number of cells you wish to spot weld
    2. cell_diam: the diameter (mm) of the cells (18 for 18650s)
    3. height: the height (mm) of the jig - higher is stabler, but takes longer to print
    4. wall_thickness: the thickness (mm) of the jig wall; 1mm works well for me
  3. Save the file, render and generate the STL
  4. Print and use. Set your cells into the jig, lay a nickel strip over the top, and spotweld away!

Printing

Works well for me in cheap PLA. No supports or raft/brim required. I used enough walls that there was no infill needed (just solid walls) - this printed quickly and produced a functional part.
