I can't be the only maker with a pocket full of nuts bolts and other random little bits at the end of every day. But I think I got an idea for that..
Simply unload your pockets on the box and with a little shake all of the loose hardware, coins and guitar picks are separated from the larger items.
I'll stop playing around keep this as brief but informative as possible.
The best part about 3D printing is how easy it is to make various versions of the same model. And with this build, I have provided both OBJ and STL files of my exploration into a few different options we have to chose from.
If you are tight on time, my recommended combination is the 1mm floor 20mm deep box (with felt feet) and a 1mm lid LG pattern with the 1mm mat (TPU). TPU is great, though you can easily use felt or fabric to get a similar quality tactile interaction with the box.
LIDS:
The smaller pattern (SM) and larger pattern (LG) hexagon lids come in 1mm and 5mm thick. The 1mm is not only the cheaper and faster print but MOST importantly has a really interesting concaved shape when fitted into the box and actually causes a SUPER satisfying bounce and centering of larger items when tossed in. Such a fun feature!
The 1mm lid in LG is HIGHLY recommended. The LG allows American coins to pass through easily (even the half dollars pass through most often), but if you decide to try the 5mm you may have to sand the lid just a bit, or print at a scale of 99% due to the lids tight fit.
BOXES:
The boxes come in two options, 5mm floor thickness with 15mm deep box. Or my favorite 1mm floor thickness with 20mm deep box. The latter was designed with a thin floor and intended to have felt feet added on the bottom. This was designed to give a drum like sound when things fall through the hexagons, with or without the use of a mat. AND another fun feature of the thin floor is it allows some led lights from below to pass through ;) if you wanna get crazy, no pressure.
Mat:
The Mat only comes in 1mm, though you could stop mid print if you wanted to go thinner. I have yet to tinker and perfect my TPU filament prints so for the sake of the contest deadline I will be using felt or a fabric. This part is not needed, though when designing models I try to really keep in mind how it feels when touching and using the model. The feel and sounds an item makes is really important to me, especially when they are my designs.
Thanks for your time,
Enjoy!!
