This is an experimental compliant mechanism that replaces an oldham coupling. The 3 layers of the sandwich each serve a different purpose.

NOTE: This will NOT work with the stock extruder. Try at your own risk.

The top and bottom layers constrain the movement of the middle layer in one plane while the arms in the middle layer allow the center to translate over X and Y.

The bottom layer has holes that align with the Z axis lead nut holes on an Ender 3 and the middle layer has holes that align with the Z axis lead nut.

Hardware Needed:

  • 4 m3x12 screws to connect the 3 layers together
  • 2 m3x8 screws to connect the nut to the middle layer
  • 2 m3x8 screws to connect the assembly to the ender 3 z axis mount.

Printed at 0.2mm layer height with PETG for flexibility. PCTPE might also work.

A laser cut layer of ptfe lined parchment paper between the top and middle layers may help with reducing friction.
