I've only tested this on the following digikey part, not original FM connectors. So I'm not sure if it works for those. If you give it a try, drop a comment to let others know.
digikey conxall-switchcraft 6280-6SG-519
Tips:
- Print the inner parts (2) in something strong like PETG, with a small layer height to keep small details intact, 0.1-0.2mm.
- Print the outer ring in TPU. I recommend sizing the X and Y dimensions to 98% so it's a snug fit
To install:
- Slide the TPU outer ring over the connector.
- Join the two halves of the inner ring onto the connector (you can't slide it on after attaching the two halves), flange outward towards controller, and weld them together. I used a soldering iron to carefully join the two halves.
- Then apply a flexible, strong adhesive to the outside of the inner ring, and slide the outer ring over into place.
- I then also welded the TPU ring to the PETG ring on the top and bottom edges, for insurance.
- Let glue cure according to instructions for maximum strength. But maybe test it before gluing to ensure your print tolerances are good enough to properly lock to the controller. My fit was snug, but worked perfectly.
