I had a lot of problems when attempting to print tall lithophanes for inserting into backlit memory boxes, and i couldn't find anyway of supporting them as they got towards the top.
The height of the boxes I use accept a lithophane of 8" x 10" so when your getting a height of 230mm they tend to fall over or curl at the top.
I designed this to add in while slicing and it can be used as follows:
1. Bring your lithophane STL file into your slicer ready to slice, then import this STL file.
2. adjust the Z axis height to the height of your lithophane so in my case my lithophane was 220mm tall I simply increased the height of the support to 220mm tall.
3. Move the support until it just touches the outside of the lithophane and sits with the bulk of the support at the back and then multiply it to create a second one and do the same on the other side.
4. Slice your lithophane and print as normal, Once completed, the supports should snap away from the lithophane cleanly and leave a smooth clean finish at the sides.
The image shows Just the support after removal from a lithophane.
I hope this helps anyone who is trying to print larger lithophanes.
I could not find anything like this anywhere so please forgive me if this already exists.
