Lots of LED options, none of them worked for parts I had laying about, most required me going to... IKEA. No.
Mine uses a 10mm flexible LED strip that was for TV, cut down to about 10", plugged into a USB battery. It draws around 200mA.
It lights from the front at a very slight ~15 degree angle, just enough so it doesn't shine in your eyes straight-on. It's surprisingly effective -- additional side and rear lighting didn't make it any better, so I just used this one strip with about 5 LEDs on it.
I stiffened the LED strip with http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:536648 and designed my part to let it slide in. It's not a tight fit nor meant to be -- easy to removed should I need to pull things apart. I put a small piece of tape on the inside of the strip after insertion to prevent it from sliding out.
I fastened the USB cables down to the frame with http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1740833
