May I present the Aquila Sonic2, a Lightweight modular fan shroud/Toolhead for the Voxelab Aquila S2. After searching for many hours for an easy to use and print fan shroud for the S2 and finding nothing but frustration I decided to design and build a new one for the benefit of myself and anyone else who bought the S2 and wanted easy upgrade paths. Compatible with Fedor of 3DPrintSOS's OOTBDD(Out of the box Direct Drive) adaption for the Aquila also.
“For when you've got to go fast.”
Features:
Featuring support for 1 or 2 upgraded 4010 Radial fans plus an upgraded 4010 or 4020 blower for heat-break cooling. Version with ABL mount available too. You'll need to remount your screen for the 4020 fan to not collide with the back of the display.
Using only the original gantry mounting hardware along with two extended m3x20mm fasteners to secure the shroud to the aluminum extruder block you are able to lower the weight of the stock shroud from 86.5g (without fans) to just 11g! (around 45g including my triple 4010 fan setup) All while maintaining access and clearance for an extruder wheel as seen in the pictures.
I've built in some tolerance for different manufacturers' positioning of screw holes in the main blower fan (standards seem tighter on the radial fans)
I will be active with iterating and improving this design as and when the community requires.
Compatible with many 4010 fan ducts as long as they are <9mm in Z height
Simple to install, takes less than 3 minutes.
In the works:
A version with the blower internally mounted with a nice fan grill.
Updates:
V1.1 minor update: Strengthened ABL mount and increased the size of the holes to 3.5mm to reduce chance of cracking the mount and to allow for the use of flat head/Low profile computer screws for a better fit below the Stepper motor.
Installation:
Print Settings:
You need to print this Blower fan down, with normal zig zag supports enabled (around 20% support density worked best for me). I printed it in .24 layer height at 65mm/s in PETG and it takes about an hour, an 8 line brim was super easy to peel off and helps with bed adhesion, as this is an easy print to lift up with a speeding nozzle collision. Infill doesn't matter with ~.42mm line width and 1.3mm wall thickness - it's pretty darn sturdy especially with hardware attached.
Limitations:
Now this design isn't perfect. Vision of the nozzle is very limited for the first few layers but this is only usually an issue on smaller prints, and I designed this thing to go FAST! just like its namesake, so I will be using it on larger prints mostly.
Finally:
If this design was useful to you, and saved you the many hours of trying to configure a fully custom shroud like Hero Me, then please feel free to leave a small tip to say thank you! It will be received with a smile!

Comments with improvements, makes and likes are always appreciated and I would love to see remixes where people have embraced the core design philosophies and made it their own!
As always, Take care.
