Printing Instructions

  1. use PLA, magnets tend to loose their strength when they are exposed to heat. Maybe PETG gonna work too, but i didn't test this yet - if you want feel free to share your experience, but please don't blame me if there went something wrong

  2. use any layer height you like (i printed with 0.4 height on a 0.6mm nozzle)

  3. no support is needed

  4. if you want to print without top and bottom solid layer: use a modifier cylinder (100% infill) to make sure there is enough material around the magnets. If not, just slice as many top/bottom layers as you want.

  5. recommended: 15% gyroid infill - but you can use any

  6. use 3 perimeters for the container

  7. use 4-5 perimeters for the lid so the gyroid infill doesn't lay on the top of the container but some stronger perimeters (don't know if this is necessary but i like it from a designers perspective)

  8. use a pause g-code (or whatever your slicer offers) to interrupt the print and place the magnets.
Important: on Prusa MK3S+ Firmware 3.10 there is a bug, which leads to not re-heating the nozzle after you resume the print. There is a workaround for Octoprint users.

Note: I used no solid layers to improve the print time. It saves me around 25min for the container and 10min for the lid. Also i liked the look of the gyroid instead of the usual solid layers. No worry for the magnets - with the modifier cylinders they hold very well.

Important: i uploaded the STL and 3MF files with a 0.8mm clearance around the top part to get the lid off more easily.
IT IS POSSIBLE THAT WITH YOUR PRINTER/FILAMENT COMBINATION THE LID WILL BE TOO TIGHT OR TOO LOOSE.
Please keep that in mind and use the Fusion360 files to customize it.

My printing setup: 0.6mm nozzle, 0.4 layer height, 15% gyroid infill, 3-5 perimeters.

Fusion 360

Use the attached Fusion 360 files to customize the container to your needs.

Note: keep in mind there are pockets for the magnets in the bottom. So a minimum length and width of 35x35mm is needed.

To Do:

  • adding pictures of prints and better screenshots
  • adding slicer screenshots for “no solid layers” as example
  • adding english parameter names
  • adding tags (?)
