I made got the idea of this model off of the light diffuser from User Wise_Man. I wanted to take the model he made and make it extendable into a light bar. You can mount the bar to the wall, or under a bookshelf like what I did (as shown in the pictures).
Some things to note.
- Wise_Man used the holes in the back for the LED light strips. I used it for screw holes and one of the models has a dedicated hole for the light strip.
- You will need to download the designs from the original model and stretch it out to fit the models fully. Even the end cap models will need it stretched a bit from what are the defaults. You should be able to easily do that for one direction. (I didn't upload the stretched versions since this is somewhat a simple task and would add wayyyy to many files that would need to be individually uploaded )
- If you want more light to come out of the strip, I would suggest using a lighter color. Black (like what I used) absorbs quite a bit of the light so even though I packed it to the brim with lights, it isn't all too bright.
- If you find that there are gaps between each box, try using some tape on the inside of the box where you will not see it, and it will block the light from coming out of the gaps.
Print Suggestions:
- The models will be on their “back” when put into the slicer but it is going to be best if you sit them up when printing so that they don't have huge issues with overhangs. You should have no need for supports when printing any of these parts.
- layer height: Any
- Filament type: Any
- Supports: No
- Read “Some things to note” FULLY before trying to print so that you don't miss something and end up needing to reprint.
Thanks again to Wise_Man for the EPIC model and for the inspiration of this side project! Congrats on winning an award in the contest! :D
