This model is for printing the flow correction cover for a laminar flow hood.

A laminar flow hood (LFH) is used by microbiologists and mushroom growers to blow filtered air onto their media (agar plates, grain spawns, etc.) and prevent contamination from the outside (mold, bacteria, etc.).

Usually, even the cheapest LFHs cost more than 250 bucks, because they use a special HEPA filter. This design costs only ~100€, since it uses a relatively cheap one for room air filters.
Sadly, normal air filters don't createa proper laminar flow due to their geometry, which is important to not drag in pollutants from outside the air flow.
Gladly, this model corrects the air stream to remove any turbulence due to its grid tubes.

The model is too big for pretty much every print bed, so I split it in half and glued it together afterwards.

For the LFH you need:

  • the 3D-printed part, 2x
  • an HEPA filter, namely the Philips FY3433/10 NanoProtect Series 3 (38x30 cm)
  • plywood and some wooden bars
  • a strong squirrel cage blower, should have an air volume of at leas 500 m^3/h
  • silicone
  • some screws
