In these hard times, wearing protective masks is vital. But we need much more masks than can be fabricated. So, it is a must to sterilize and reuse them dozens of times.
The most affordable, effective and gentle method is using dry heat: half hour at temperatures between 70°C and 100°C assures sterilization and reusability for at least 20 times (https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acsnano.0c03597?goto=supporting-info)
The Prusament cardboard box is ideal for a sterilization unit that accommodate two surgical or N95 masks. The box has a large hexagonal hole that can serve for a panel to mount a DC power female jack socket connector.
The panel was designed in two parts that press-fit together, one from the outside and one from the inside of the box.
The sterilizing unit draws 2.5 A @ 12 V, it reaches 70°C in 5 min and after another 30 minutes the masks are ready to reuse.
