Description

PDF

This is a Canon RF adapter for small Takahashi refractor telescopes with or without focal reducers. It works on the reducer/flatteners of the FS-60C and the Sky90 which present a M56x0.75 external thread and require a 72mm metal-back distance.

It is designed to provide a clear aperture of about 47mm. This is about 9mm wider than a T-thread adapter. Additionally, my adapter with the Baader RF connector weighs 64g compared to 182g for a Tak CA-35 and a Fotasy T2-EOSR adapter.

The adapter mates to the D52 ring of a Baader Planetarium Canon RF adapter (Baader part number 2408336 "Baader Wide T Ring for Canon R (Bayonet) with D52i to T-2 and S52").

Also included are STLs for 1mm and 1.5mm spacers that can go between the printed part and the Baader camera adapter to lengthen the metal-back distance a very small amount.

Clean up

The M56x0.75 thread is kind of tight, and it is critical to get the threading started correctly. I generally de-burr the inside edge and then mount the adapter over a metal external thread turning counter-clockwise until you feel the click of the end of the thread dropping past the end of the mating thread. Then turn clockwise to start the adapter thread on the metal. Visually check to make sure it is threading evenly. All sides of the adapter should be the same distance from the surface of the mate. And work it on and off a few times until it threads smoothly.
