I designed and 3D printed this bracket to hold a secondary OLED display for the Disting EX multi-function Eurorack module. No soldering is needed. Photos
This secondary display greatly increases the readability of the Disting EX. It makes the already very powerful Disting EX much easier to use.
This bracket is available in several different versions for different mounting configurations. (see below for details on the different versions.) The simplest version mounts at the bottom to a Eurorack rail. All the different versions are 14HP wide. Note, none of the versions are 1U, and they will not fit in a 1U slot. The bracket does not need or use the PCB adaptor board from Expert Sleepers & Thonk. (Note, the Thonk PCB is 1U-compatible if that's what you need.)
But this bracket uses the exact same OLED display recommended by Expert Sleepers. You will need to buy this display separately. The display board model is the "Arduino 2.2"128x32 OLED Breakout Board Display Module,Blue on Black" available from BuyDisplay.com. Choose the "Pin Header Connection-4 Wire SPI" option. The link is to the blue OLED version, but other colors are available. When this is published the display board is $15.
You will also need 7 Dupont socket-to-socket cables (20 cm length) (aka female-to-female). These are available wherever DIY small electronics parts are sold.
The bracket holds the OLED display to which you directly connect the 7 Dupont socket cables. The cables thread through a slot on the back. Sockets at the other ends of these Dupont cables connect to the two jacks on the back of the Disting EX (just as with the PCB). Refer to the Expert Sleepers Github page for details on the connections: Expert Sleepers Github page.
Wiring summary:
Pay attention that display pin 1 (GND) is on the left when viewed from the display front and on the right when viewed from the back where you will plug the Dupont cables to the pins.
Note: there are now 5 variations of the display holder: rail above, rail below, either rail above or below (not both) or embedded in a full 3U 14HP panel. You only need to print one version plus one cable guide.
The two 3D printed parts require assembly with tiny screws -- 4 screws to hold the OLED display PCB to the bracket, and two screws to hold the cable routing slot on the back. Since it is 3D printed you should pre-tap the plastic holes for the screws with a tiny drill bit to match the tiny screws. I used #1- 1/4" wood screws.
You are free to download and print this for non-commercial use.
Use this at your own risk, of course.
