I made some nuc boxes for my bees out of plywood and decided to make an entrance wheel with 4 positions
There's a handle to move the wheel and the "landing board" is slightly angled down to reduce the chances of water entering the hive.
1 fully closed, for short-term transport. mainly within the apiary
3 small holes for ventilation only, to keep bees from leaving the nuc for more extended periods.
2 fully opened, it is useful when the nuc is strong, close to transferring to a full-size colony and there's a lot of nectar flow.
4 reduced entrances to help the colony defend itself better from other insects and rodents, It's supposed to block the queen from exiting the hive so it's unsuitable for unmated queens.
The author marked this model as their own original creation.
