The Puzzles

The Polyrhons consists of rhombic dodecahedron, which is a convex polyhedron with 12 congruent rhombic faces.
In this puzzle the 14 flat tetrarhones and the 5 trirhones are used.

Some of the Tetrarhone are so similar that they are difficult to distinguish. For this reason, there are 2 versions of the 3D print templates for the game pieces available here: one without a number and one with an "engraved" number. To reproduce the figures according to the solution templates given in the graphic, it is recommended to use the numbered tiles.

There are 11 platforms with 4 different types, depending on which surface, edge or corner of the polyrhone is at the bottom.

Type 1:
With the platforms rhontetrabase_4_1, rhontetrabase_5_1 and rhontetrabase_6_1 you build tetrahedra of edge length 4, 5 and 6 respectively.

Type 2:
With the platforms rhontetrabase_5_2 and rhontetrabase_7_2 you also build tetrahedra. However, the edge length per layer does not decrease by 1 as with the type 1 tetrahedron, but by 2.

Type 3:
With this type, the rhombs of the polyrhons are at the bottom. With the platforms rhonpyrabase_4_1 and rhonpyrabase_5_1 you build pyramids with edge length 4 and 5 respectively. The bases of the pyramids are not square. With the platform rhonpyrabase_5x4 you get a 5×4 roof.

Type 4:
With the platforms rhonpyrabase_4_2 and rhonpyrabase_5_2 you build a pyramid with edge length 4 and 5 respectively. With the platform rhonpyrabase_5x4_2 you build a 5×4 roof.

3D Printing Tips

I printed the puzzle with the following settings:

  • Material: PLA

  • Resolution: 0.2mm

  • Infill: 20%

  • support for some puzzle tiles

  • no raft, no brim
