Hook shaped boomerang with a certain Boomerang Fever vibe.
Flies a nice big circle. The first one I made so far felt a little heavy and required a pretty hard throw, so I added a widened version. There is a considerable difference between the two: the narrow one has more drag and requires a hefty throw, and returns a bit like a fast catch. The wider one, which I also printed a little lighter (fewer perimeters, less infill), is much more relaxed and will do a nice 40 m circle with a flick of the wrist.
As always, if it tends to fly too low or dive into the ground halfway through the flight, bend the wing tips a little bit upwards (positive dihedral).
Made in Blender using polygonal modeling techniques: I first traced the outline using a series of quads, added some loop cuts to detail the airfoils, and repaired the wing tips so the airfoils wrap around the tips nicely. Only then the shape was extruded into the Z dimension. I also flattened the top surface by adding some more loop cuts around it – not so much for aerodynamics, but because the print looks nicer that way (a slightly rounded top ends up with some ugly narrowing layers on the top surface of the print).
