Original tsubas on the Cold Steel Bokken are thin and made of injection-molded polypropylene with very high glass fiber content. This makes them rather brittle and they tend to break during bokkendo sparring. The manufacturer sells no spares.
I've designed a replacement tsuba through modelling the original tsuba shape followed by multiple iterations of test-fitting and remodeling.
The spare tsuba is meant to be used with the original retention ring (luckily, they are not prone to breaking).
Due to chamfering, the model can be safely scaled vertically up to 2.5 times in order to make it heavier and thus change the weigh distribution of the bokken.
Recommendations for printing:
100% infill, at least 4 mm wall thickness.
Use an impact-resistant filament. PETG works well, though nylon-based composites would work too
The author marked this model as their own original creation.
