This is a remix of organicap's original design, but I added vents to the bottom and the lid to provide better cooling. This enclosure can hold a either a SATA or IDE 3.5" hard drive or a 2.5" "with an adapter" hard drive fastened by side mounted screws. The enclosure can be used with or without the lid.

There is a cutout in the back to accommodate various connection or adapters. You can use either use standard cables "a temporary connection to clone a drive, but have the drive safely protected from movement or shorting out" or either a SATA or IDE to USB adapters.

The original design can be found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3020181

04-27-2020 at 04:52pm EST Update: After printing I found that the bottom section where the hard drive goes into to be much too tight, so I shaved .5mm on the sides and 1mm on the front and back to allow the drive to have a little play. By doing this it will allow inserting & removing the hard drive much easier, also allowing the mounting screws to lineup better. This STL file is named HDD Vented External Enclosure Bottom - 05x1mm v1. If you still prefer the tighter fit that STL file is named HDD Vented External Enclosure Bottom v1.

04-30-2020 at 05:45pm EST Update: I've released another version of the enclosure that has the back is open to accommodate some adapters. The STL files are named HDD Vented External Enclosure Bottom - Open Back v1 & HDD Vented External Enclosure Lid - Open Back v1.

Printing Tip: No supports are required. Make in your slicer that you have the orientation correctly. The bottom with the bottom onto the bed & the top of the lid is onto the bed.

Notes:

I printed it on a glass build sheet using binder clips to hold onto the ceramic glass bed that the Tevo Tornado has & applied a glue stick to the glass build sheet, so that the print can adhere to. Using Sunlu PLA+ black filament the initial bed temp was 70C, nozzle temp 215, no cooling fan, & print slow on the first layer (I had it at 25). On the 2nd layer to finish drop to bed temp 60C, nozzle temp 215, cooling fan high, & increase print speed back to normal. Note: I did use a skirt to prime the nozzle, but is it your choice.
