If you need your pets fed and watered automatically, this project is for you.
The entire system is covered in detail in this video:
Arduino code here: https://github.com/teachingtechYT/backyardAutomation
Use the tabs at the bottom to navigate, then right-click on any parts in the lower left to export in a format of your choice.
Feeder printed parts
All parts except those marked ‘TPU’ can be printed in a rigid filament of your choce. PLA is likely fine unless you are in a hot climate. High infill/perimters is recommended for any parts with gears, the motor mount and frames. No support required.
Feeder hardware required
A geared motor is required. This is the one I used: https://www.jaycar.com.au/36rpm-12vdc-reversible-gearhead-motor/p/YG2734
F695 flanged bearings x 8: https://amzn.to/3W8POFA
5mm ID, 13mm OD, 4mm thickness.
Designed to fit inside this container: https://www.bunnings.com.au/ezy-storage-waterproof-ip67-storage-box-32l_p0204841
Other containers can be used, but the top cover and cover strips will need to be redesigned to suit.
Electrical plug in the 6 way Deutsch as seen in this set: https://amzn.to/3Wc45B7
M5 bolts are used throughout. Long length is preferable for holding frame pieces to frame spacer. Wide washers for the side being attached through drilled holes in the container.
M3 bolts to hold the plug holder pieces together.
Drinker printed parts
No support material needed but if you are unsure, you may wish to use it for the left and right pieces. As shown in the video, drinker body pieces are designed to be water proofed and RTV siliconed together.
I used ASA for its UV resistance, but that is probably redundant since I coated most of it in Bully Liner https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/bully-liner-bullyliner-coating/590603.html
Drinker hardware
The drinker is designed to accept a 19mm poly tube fitting.
Drain is designed to accept PVC pipe, ID 53.5 OD 60mm.
M6 bolts are used to hold the pieces together. For the centre holes (left to right pieces), use as long as possible (≥ 50mm). The holes around the perimeter will need shorter bolts. M6 x 30 mm to prevent the end of the bolt poking through.
I mounted my drinker to a chain link fence as seen in the video. The mounts have cable tie holes in the end to faciliate mounting to various surfaces.
The author marked this model as their own original creation.
