This is an add on for the Scribit drawing robot that allows the pens to be fitted and removed in a snap, magnetically.
The original Scribit uses a plastic screw and a ‘O’ ring to hold onto the pens, but I was constantly having pens and ‘O’ rings jam up, twist or tangle, fall out or end up with the pen at the wrong depth - and have to remove and reinstall everything. With this collar add on the pens just snap into place, and a small twist of the pen let’s you pull them straight back out without even fighting the magnets.
Once you’ve tried it, it becomes an essential upgrade. Believe me!
Parts
The design uses 3mm(diameter) x 2mm magnets, 8 magnets for the robot itself and then another two for each pen holder you print. - For the full 8 colour pen setup, you will need 24x magnets in total.
Notes on assembly…
When you’ve printed them, fit magnets in the SAME orientation in all the robot-side fittings, and screw onto the Scribit.
Fit magnets into the pen-side fitting and press fit onto a pen. Make sure all magnets are completely flush with the bottom surface of the collar. I made them so that you need to align the depth line of the marker to the bottom face of the magnet mount - see photo below. Make sure all the markers are fitted to the same depth.
Check the magnet poles as you go, you will have to destroy a print if you need to remove them.
Side note - this fits the erasable ‘plaster’ Scribit markers perfectly. I gave up on the self-erasing ones. I should be able to dig them out and add a modified version if anybody wants it though.
