I added a little box to hold a barrel jack, a switch, and the excess fan wire. The picture shows the fume extractor without the filter installed.

It still prints without supports (if your printer is bad at bridging, the mess will be hidden inside the box anyway!)

Bill of materials:

  • 120mm PC fan, with screws
  • 130x130x10mm carbon filter (same as for the common Hakko fume extractor)
  • #6-32 threaded inserts, 2pcs
  • #6-32 countersink screws, 2pcs (you might have some of these left over from PC cases)
  • 1/4" panel mount toggle switch
  • 5.5x2.5 barrel jack (seems to be the most common for 12v power supplies)
  • 12v power supply

Edit the OpenSCAD file if you have different parts on hand. I also used a bit of pin header to attach my wiring to the fan plug, but you could hardwire it if you want.
